(In fact, the Guqin has remained unevolved for well over two millenia!)
Singapore is well placed (geographically, politically, socially and technologically) to conduct the acoustic research of Asian musical instrument, to fundamentally influence, contribute and benefit Asian music culture because traditional music performance is an essential component of Singapore’s multicultural, multiracial heritage.
To achieve such goals, extensive and continuous effort in the relevant research areas are required. Below are some research projects currently pursued by the team:
CHINESE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS:
1.The ongoing research on the Dizi includes: Dizi dimension optimization and standardization: determine optimal geometries for every standard key in the Dizi family
2.Fundamental Dizi Design: Exploratory research on improving (1) Dizi Membrane hole and (2) optimization of tuning and overblowing response (upstream chamber and embouchure hole).
INDIAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS:
Extend existing research to Indian Bansuri and Venu Flutes
